Baseball Buddies are junior high and high school children that help their challenged partners by acting as guides for blind children, by pushing wheelchair-bound children around the bases, or by helping them bat or field the ball.
Children interested in becoming a Baseball Buddy will be required to register online beginning November 1, 2009. Please note that there is a separate registration button for becoming a Challenger BUDDY from that for becoming a Challenger PLAYER!
Buddy training, provided by the Challenger division, will be required prior to the start of the season . Date is March , 2, 2010. All Buddies will be asked to participate in at least three games within the season for assisting with Challenger Baseball. The 2010 games will be held on the following dates: March 28, April 11, April 18, April 26, May 2, May 16 and May 23. Buddies will receive Challenger Buddy T-shirts for game day and other Challenger activities.
A Buddy's job is simply to be a friend, engage the child in conversation, if possible; help him/her hit, throw, catch the ball if needed, keep the child's attention on the game and make sure that the players are safe and no one gets hit with a ball or bat. This becomes a rewarding experience for both the player and the Buddy. The Baseball Buddies program allows the parents to receive a much deserved break and cheer the players from the stands. We ask that Baseball Buddies arrive 30 minutes before the games, which are expected to last approximately 1 hour. All games are played at 2pm on Sunday afternoons.
We look forward to your participation as a Challenger Buddy
