WULL 2020 Season Update

Dear WULL Families,

Since the beginning of this crisis, the Board of WULL has consistently worked towards and broadly communicated the desire to get our kids back out on the baseball fields and play ball when it was safe. Unfortunately, as summer begins, the time has come for us to make an incredibly difficult, but we believe correct, decision regarding WULL this summer. Please know that WULL convened a special committee of 24 Board members to review both the State of Texas guidelines and Little League International guidelines published this week outlining proper safety protocols to follow when opening back up for games and practices.  In addition to this, WULL polled all of our team managers and families on their ability to participate in the month of June and possibly July. The committee and Board had to also take into account the fact that HISD, who is a great partner of our league, still has our main campus locked up and have not indicated when that status will change. After all of this information was compiled, this special committee recommended to not re-open WULL. The Board then voted unanimously in agreement with this recommendation.

Unfortunately, in the end, the experience for our families and players, the participation level and the health associated risks outweighed our ability to get back on the fields. We are especially saddened for our Seniors who age out and will not get to play their last year of Little League and for our 12 year old Majors players, who will not get to play their last season of traditional Little League dad-coached baseball. We intend to honor both of these groups in the late summer/early fall, so please stay tuned for these details.

I would like to take a moment and personally thank our Green Hat Board, Auxiliary Board, our managers and coaches and all of our WULL families. In these unprecedented times, the outpouring of support and the contributions you all make have allowed us to get through some pretty tough days. I look forward to seeing you all in the fall and spring and communicating the same in person.

The Board has looked extensively at the possibility of a partial refund for our season. We, unfortunately, are not in a financial position to offer a partial refund. This was determined after taking into account that registration covers only 50% of the cost to run our league, that many of our costs are front-end loaded and fixed, we lost our big fundraiser in our cancelled annual Gala and we lost significant funding from the City of West University this year.

Finally, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our league sponsors this year. We could not run our league or have the same quality of fields and facilities without the generous support of these sponsors and all of our WULL families. You can learn more about our sponsors here: WULL Sponsors

This is not a decision we have taken lightly. The WULL Board is comprised of members who are passionate about providing an environment for our children to learn, grow and mature through this wonderful game of baseball. However unfortunate, we do not feel that environment could be adequately and safely created this summer.

I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding during these unprecedented times, and I hope you and your families remain healthy and safe and have a wonderful/relaxing summer.

Sincerely,

Michael Dellinger
